Ok, I booted from the CD. I set three mount points: /boot(23MB),Linux Swap(254 MB),and / (Grow to fill disk, and set at 100MB).
ok, and then i choose to install lilo on the MBR, pick my time zone and set my password and such.
Then it gets to the part where it is supposed to be installing packages and there are all 0's for # of packages to be installed, time left, and everything.
the back arrow disappears, as well as the next,----what am i doing wrong??

I don't understand "and / (Grow to fill disk, and set at 100MB)."
If you think 100MB will do the job, you are definitely wrong. Even a RH6.1 wants it's 2 to 3 GB of space.

That's true you need alot more space. If you check under RedHat's website they have recommended the size of each partition. I know it's about 5GB for Linux9.

sorry for the misunderstanding, i typed in 100 MB and also clicked grow to fill disk, which is around 10-11 Gigs
I have my hd partitioned to approx 7.5 Gigs for XP and approx 10.5 Gigs for RH. Wouldve liked for it to have been the other way around but i keep getting errors from my partition magic and i dont really feel like reformatting again although i could..but i would like to get RH on the 10.5 that i have now to see if i even like it before i reformat

If I remember right, the 2nd CD in Redhat 6.1 is the source CD, and you probably won't be asked for it. You will only need the 1st CD, unless you are considering making modifications to the source so as to change the programs.
I believe that a full install of Redhat 6.1 will take less than 2 gig of disk space. Do a custom install and choose "install everything" at the bottom of the list.
I had Mandrake 6.1 (at its release, it was Redhat's 6.1 with enhancements) and X-Windows would often crash on my 1.4 Ghz Athlon XP 1600+. This version of Redhat was not designed around such fast processors (you indicate yours is a 1.5 Ghz), and this may be why you are having some difficulty with it. That's simply a guess, though. If I were you, I'd use Redhat 7.3 or newer (2.4 kernel) with that newer PC.
Good luck.

Somehow I don't believe that, as you say "Then it gets to the part where it is supposed to be installing packages and there are all 0's for # of packages to be installed, time left, and everything."
It won't get to the part where it's installing the packages until you have told it what you want to install, and that includes the part where it asks whether you want a server install, custom install, etc, and if you choose custom, then you get that list I was referring to.

well, i just recently pulled out one of my old computers w/98 on it and erased it. i erased all the partitions off of the drive and booted up the installation for redhat 6.1. now on this machine it does give me a list of packages to pick from right after the passwords screen i believe where as with my XP it wouldnt give me that screen, like someone mentioned earlier i believe, im thinking that the version was too old for such a new computer
