Hello,
During the summer I wanted to try out a new OS, (besides the Macintosh OS), so I purchaes a book called "Red Hat Linux 9.0 for Dummies". I had checked out "Red Hat Linux 8.0 for Dummies" from my public library previously, and was ble to get it installed on my system with no problems only by changing the boot sequence in my BIOS.
For some strange reason, though, I can't boot Red Hat Linux 9.0 from the CD like you should be able to. Why is this? Well, since I will probbaly never be able to find this message or it's reply on this site, (as there are so many), I would appreciate it if all comments be sent to my email address which is:Cold_Fus1on@hotmail.com
I am new to Red Hat Linux and would like to someday become a Red Hat Linux guru. I am already a Windows guru, and would like to move on to a different OS as my primary OS. I appreciate all the help I can get.
Thanks for your time,
Cold Fus1on

Are you trying to install redhat on a Macintosh or on a normal PC?
I don't think redhat will work on a mac. There are some versions of linux that work on mac though. I think Gentoo just released such a version, but there are others too. If you're new, I wouldn't recommand gentoo to start with...

i tried the rh9 for dummies book not too long ago too. my suggestion is that you don't use the discs that come with it to install. for one thing the discs were labeled wrong so i always had to put in the opposite one that they told me to. that may be your problem as well....
what i really suggest is that u download and burn a copy of the rh isos yourself. they're pretty big files, but u only need the first 3.

Hey,
Thanks for your help. I think you are right. I think I may have been intalling them backwards. Lmao! Cause I noticed that the book stated the dos utilities were on Disc 1, when they were on Disc 2. I'm sure if I switch the discs around it will work properly. Thanks for the help!
Also note that I am using an ordinary Dell computer and I have successfully installed Red Hat Linux 8.0 on my system. I think that one person was right about the CD's that came with the book being labeled backwards. Thanks again!

Hello,I did download RedHat 9.0 from RedHat.COM ! but I don't know how to deal with iso files! I used to install Linux Suse and Mandrake but this one made me Mad!!!
I have those *.iso (3 PC Platform) on my window$ 2000 but I had no idea what to do so I open them under a directory in Mandrake but when I follow RedHat Installation steps it doesn't work at all.
Any suggestion ?Thanks

Say what??? You're supposed to burn those ISO files onto your CD-ROM before you can install RedHat Linux 9.0!!! You can burn them in Windows or under Linux if you wish. Under Linux, you can use XCDroast which is pretty good because I use it all the time to burn those ISO files... In Windows, there are a few softwares so you may want to head over to www.linuxiso.org to read up on it! It covers pretty most of the well known CD burners out there!!!

yeah, I used that book, and it works great (once you figure out that disk one= disk two and the converse) ... doesn't say much for the book thouhg. I got more help on here than from that book.
