look in your /var/log/messages to find out where exactly it fails and then post again.

Are you getting this error?:
[root]# wine
wine: lstat /tmp/.wine-root/server-348-98253/socket : No such file or directory

Not to worry there is a fix:
[root]# export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
[root]# wine

The latest distros are using new libraries that break wine. This fix is workaround until wine can be fixed.

I have that error when I run wine with RedHat 9.The fix works for RedHat 9.
