I'm a Windows user, who would rather not be :-(
Have installed Desktop L/X on Dell laptop. Win XP PC is visible on LAN from Linux!Wow, real easy! But, No internet..name reolution problem, I suppose. I've typed prim. & sec. DNS + DHCP. Can only ping LAN. No HTTP.
No problem to HTTP from XP PC. Why is default gateway only available with static IP in Linux, not so in WinXP.
Any help would be appreciated. Regards, p

Can you ping websites by domain or IP?

Try pinging yahoo.com. If that does not work try 66.218.71.198, which is also yahoo and should reply.

If you can ping by IP but not by domain then it is a DNS issue.

If you can do neither try pinging your gateway. If you get replies then make sure that you have the correct gateway entered.

Try that and reply back.
