Is there a good Linux distro/GUI for running on a pentium 1 150mhz with 80mb ram? I tried Knoppix but it's GUI needs more ram to run.

Either an older version of Slackware or RedHat... I used to have RedHat Linux 4.2 running with only 64MB of RAM!!!

I don't agree with that. Why use old software when new versions are available, which might even same more ram?
Just install any distro (without a window manager and other stuff), and install fluxbox over that.
Btw, I used to have debian 2.2 running with 16MB of ram. Technically, you can run Linux over a 386 system with 6 MB of ram, but I'm talking only about the kernel here. Also, minix runs on 386 with only 2 mb of ram.

Knoppix is the wrong approach for your machine (obviously, it needs RAM more than any other distro).

RAM is not your problem anyway - you have over 64MBs which is fine. Your virtual memory space might be a problem though.

The big drawback is your processor. Gnome and KDE are going to be very slow - the newer versions most likely unusable. You should try a minimalist window manager like IceWM, PWM, or even Rat Poison.

I would use a current version of Slackware or Debian because both let you select exactly what you want to install. XFCE4 might be light enough, but if it isn't, I'd use BlackBox or FluxBox. I'd also use MozillaFirebird rather than Mozilla. If you want to run OpenOffice, use the current version. It's much lighter on resources than older versions.
