Hopefully somone can help with my situation. I have WinXP installed on a 14 GB HD. I recently installed RH6.0 on a seperate 8 GB HD and was using the NTLoader to boot the disk, (that I learned from posts here)which was working fine.
I went ahead and upgraded to RH8.0 and decided to use GRUB on the MBR. It was working fine until yesterday and it didnt want to load WinXP. Grub was stuck at the chainloader + prompt. I went ahead and loaded Linux and found out as much info as posible about Grub but was unable to load WinXP.
To make a long story short I ended up re-installing WinXp after moving essenial files to the Linux drive. But after doing this the MBR is wiped clean. I have searched all over the place and I am just wondering how to start RH8.0 and configure it correctly so that I can do the NTloader thing again.
Right now I am using my RH 6.0 boot disk(which i had to make work) that will not boot the 2.4 kernel but thge 2.2 kernel which will not run RH8.0 correctly(wont start X).
I tried to install the lilo from the RH8.0 disk but it said something along the lines that it intereferd with an earlier install of LILO but there is no /etc/lilo.conf file when I try to run lilo.Thanks in advance.

I did a clean install of WinXP Pro followed by RedHat 8.0. I use GRUB. It works fine for me.
If you think that the grub boot information is correct you can try to reinstall it on your computer.
To reinstall the GRUB boot loader first try an install on a floppy disk:
$ grub-install /dev/fd0If this works you might want to reinstall it on the MBR of the first hard disk:
$ grub-install /dev/hda

Thanks,
That worked for making a bootable grub floppy disk...I didn't do the chroot /mnt/sysimage before; that was causing alot of problems with me fixing the sitiuation.
I did however notice some other posts concerning booting grub and WinXP....maybe there is something that needs to be looked into,
If there is anyone who knows of why these problems arise and how to prevent them, it would be helpful to post some suggestions. Until then I will use my boot disk or the NTloader.
Thanks again.
