I am Brand new to Linux. when prompted, I put GRUB on MBR of my windows Boot disk. UBUNTU CANNOT GET PAST THE Stage 1.5 then I get "error 21" and it stops and I have to restart. I have tried "rescue disk, Wubi/ubuntu install disk, I even had to do a FIXMBR in WinXP, to het out of the mess I made with GRUB. Even fixing MBR(4 hours)grub is still trying to load, but cannot.
UBNUTU resides on a sata drive, in a virtual machine created by the WUBI tool, taking up 30 GB of space(now 60), because it is my second try. The sata is a different drive then my Winxp boot drive.
If I reinstall UBUNTU I will get a choice as to whther or not I want install grub on my boot hd and it tells me that it is safe, if I enter NO what will happen?
That is the question. What will grub do if i tell it NOT to install on MBR, at the prompt, during a fresh install of UBU?
I have tried 5 or 6 different prompts to install grub. None installed except to MBR and then It would not boot anyway. I have taken much info reading same question on THIS forum, but am looking for something that can fix "error 21"
I do not want to put in a 2nd completely different IDE HDD and change bios sets each time I boot. The dual setup should be working because it is supposed to install just like an application on its own VM in the sata driv. Everything is right except it will not get past the above point.

Did you follow this?
"Wubi is Safe
It does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader.
Wubi is Simple
Just run the installer,"
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
