I'm new to Linux and posted here before about installing XP and Linux on the same 20GB hard drive ... now I'm almost there thanks to everyone who helped me so far. I've installed first XP and then ThizLinux on 20GB hard drive, setting up NTFS partions for XP and extended and swap for Linux, and now on boot up get the GRUB menu showing Windows NT/2000/XP and Thiz Linux. If I select Linux, the OS boots up fine, but if I select WinXP then I get the following messages from GRUB:

Booting Windows NT/2000/XP
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1

NTLDR is missing

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart

What is the NTLDR ? more to the point how can I fix this ?

This is what I found on webopedia.com:

Short for NT Loader, a program loaded from the hard drive boot sector that displays the Microsoft Windows NT startup menu and helps Windows NT load.
Often a user will see the message "NTLDR is Missing" after attempting to install Windows 2000 or Windows XP, or upgrade a Windows 95-based or Windows 98-based computer to Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The message appears after the first reboot. This occurs only if Windows 95 or 98 has been installed on a drive with the FAT32 file system.

To correct the problem, the user must boot the computer with a Windows 95 or 98 Startup diskette or another bootable diskette with sys.com on it. Then, at the "A:\>" prompt, type "sys c:" and press "enter." A "System Transferred" prompt should appear and then the user must reboot the computer without the diskette

Hi, today I encountered the same problem after I installed RedHat Linux on my WinNT/Win2K laptop (30G).

At this moment I could get to Win2k via the following:
(In my GRUB, only DOS/Linux are available.)
Select DOS --> Type "a" to edit --> a boot disk hda(0,6) apears --> edit to change 6 to 5 --> boot.

Then it comes to my Windows OS selections and subsequently I can load Win2k.

Problem is that every time I have to do the above to get to Win2k. And I am looking for a way to make the change and save it.

Let's discuss.
