hi i installed red hat linux on my system which pervisuly had winxp. i dint partition the HD ,but i chose to install whole HD with linux. as i wasnt able to log in after installing even after mmany attepts, i tried to install win xp again.but after installation, instaed of xp i got GRUB> appearing on the screen, and despite man y attempts i m not able to exit it.could it be that the linux was not uninstalled even after xp was installed. how can i get back winxp again. any suggestions??
As bootloader is written in MBR so its not deleted with just formatting. You have to boot xp in recovery mode and then use command "fixmbr" . This will fix up your linux bootloader problem. In order to boot in recovery mode go to folder winxp/i386 and run command "winnt32 /cmdcons" . This will install recovery console and you can select it on boot time.
