I am somewhat new to Red Hat (and this support group) but thought I’d post the following problem:
I installed Red Hat 7.2 successfully on my PC (Pentium II – Micron), and using GNOME as the GUI. After about 3 or 4 days of everything running fine, the screen just blanks out (blue screen). I reinstalled Red Hat and a few days later, the same thing happens. When the blue screen appears, there is nothing that I can do except login under the KDE and everything seems to be working fine. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Or does anyone know how to configure the Red Hat such that KDE comes up as default instead of GNOME? This seems to be a problem with GNOME … maybe I should just use KDE and forget GNOME? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
E.Manis

Check out this link for help in configuring KDE as your login manager:

Personally, I've had mixed results with both KDE and GNOME, which is why I use WindowMaker. I don't mean to suggest that you should give up on GNOME. There's an obvious problem there, and a great opportunity to learn from it, but there are alternatives to GNOME and KDE. Check this site:

You could also try:

or

http://foundation.gnome.org/advisory_board.html

Red Hat's website might offer some support, too.

I hope I've helped you. It may take a little work to resolve this problem.

Good luck.

Chris
