I am having difficulties wit getting GTK+-2.2.2 installed. I went to the GTK+ page, got it and all of the dependants, folowed all of the installation instructions and am having a problem that seems to be very prevelent.
At this time, I cannot get pango, gtk+ and other things installed after installing glib-2.2.2. Everything is complaining that glib2.0 is all that is loaded.
Wellllll, it's not. I have installed from source, and went through and exported values to PKG_CONFIG_...., have changed the information in ld_config, ran /sbin/ldconfig. None of this helped. tried to find information on uninstalling source code. Welllll, that was a waste of a day. Fond the easiest thing to do was to get checkinstall and have it build an rpm package and uninstall via rpm. The problem that that brings up is that since glib did get installed correctly according to some other log, (don't know what), other stuff that uses glib will not let it go.So I reinstalled via the rpm, with upgrade, and no problem from it. But the previously mentioned software still says that only glib2.0 is installed.
Ok, so I went back and varified the info in PKF_CONFIG....., and checked the information in pkg-config to make sure it was pointing at the .pc file for glib. In opening the .pc file, I found that it did not indicate 2.2...., it still had 2.0 reference.
Could someone please help with this. I am self taught here and have spent lots of time learning to use what I think is a better op.sys. than WINCRAP. But if this is what happens when an upgrade is needed, and the software is not recognised, I am going to have to rethink some things. Please be specific in your instructions, as I am still learning where all of the important files are kept and how to properly manipulate them. Thanks in advance for our support.

After extensive research, have resolved thios problem. All installations working after making software, directory, and PATH adjustments.
