" DistroWatch "

In the Right hand column are the Distro's sorted by popularity, Info on each of the distro's is provided with links,,,

Have Fun Huh !!! Live CD versions of many of the Distro's are also Available , So that you wouldn't have to install them on your Hard drive But could run them from the CD or DVD

MSI 845e mb 1 gb ram and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!

The newest version of Puppy Linux (Puppy 2.0) was just released June 1st; Puppy is a SMALL Linux distro (only 70MB!), so the Live-CD loads quickly into RAM and can be installed onto the harddrive if that is what you prefer. It is NOT a "full" distribution, though it is surprisingly complete; the apps in Puppy were chosen because they are fast, powerful, and easy to use.

Check these links:

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/HelpForLinuxNewbies

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Installing

Right-click this link and choose "SAVE AS..." to save the Puppy 2.0 .iso file to your harddrive.

Next, follow the instructions on this page for creating a bootable Puppy Linux CD:

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/WindowBurn

The BurnCDCC program will ONLY burn .ISO files to a CD or DVD to make a bootable disc; it is simple to use and FREE. Create your Puppy CD-R with it, then boot the system. When you boot up from the CD, you are asked some questions:

* Type of keyboard layout = my keyboard is US QWERTY

* type of mouse = my mouse has a scroll wheel

* mouse connection = my mouse is PS/2 (other choice is USB mouse)

Once the Puppy Desktop loads, you can choose your monitor resolution, and you'll be using Puppy Linux!

If you have questions, you will probably find the answers here:

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/CategoryDocumentation

Good luck; hope this helps you get started with Linux!

You can download the torrent files and download perhaps faster via Azureus or Bittorrent.
