Your modem is definately a winmodem (ie, a fake modem ie, it uses the cpu and the OS to do the things which a modem is supposed to do). Winmodems need a driver which is mostly not open source and so the companies don't give the code to the linux distributors and so these modems are not supported in linux. I have a satellite 2805 laptop, it comes with a lucent (agere) winmodem. Probably yours does too. You can check what modem it is, if its a lucent chip, you're (a bit) lucky. Its a very tiring job to install a winmodem in linux, And if its not a lucent one, just forget it. I suggest you get a real modem (ie, a hardware modem). But if you insist in installing this modem, and its a lucent one, open up google.com and type 'lucent winmodem drivers'. Or you can go to linmodems.org
