getting a bigger screen resolution

Comment:
I just went through a long installation process today which involved me having to go all day installing my OS again and again so that it would boot up properly, but now it only has 640x480 and 800x600, but my monitor is 1024x768 and as most of you know, that is too small of a resolution for anything but a program with a fullscreen mode. how can I fix this without having to spend nearly two more hours installing my distro again?

the only thing I found that worked was to try the command xrandr but that only brought up SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh *0 800 x 600 ( 323mm x 242mm ) *86 1 640 x 480 ( 323mm x 242mm ) 86 Current rotation - normal Current reflection - none Rotations possible - normal Reflections possible - none
and I could not set it otherwise with --size 1024x768
I do not have a /etc/XF86Config or /ect/X11/XF86Config to change.

xorg.conf is the file you want. Due to licencing, X has slightly changed in newer distros.

I changed the modes line to Modes "1024x768" but screen resolution (the program) still is set with 800x600 and 640x480 do I have to restart or just log out? I've only logged out, so I'm just saying this incase something is still wrong, because I don't have time to restart my computer now.

okay, I restarted my computer and it loaded still in 800x600 but 1024x768 was available, and I am now using it. Thank you for helping me!

I've never used Fredora. But, I'm guessing if it's based on Red Hat, GNOME is ypur default desktop. The resolution setting in GNOME will override the X configuration. But you can change that by selecting "screen resolution" from the main menu.
The only other thing I can think of, is possibly the mode line in xorg.conf is not set for 1024x768 by default. The X config will take the leftmost value as the default:
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
