I have a gateway solo 9300 450 p3 128 mb ram and 10 gig with dvd drive .
When I try to use the ubuntu disk it trys to load . usually makes it to the pink screen and sometimes it makes the start up sound but always locks up with a white square in the top left hand corner . I have try'd burning 3 different cd's and they pass the self test and work on my dell laptop (Im posting this message with ubuntu on my dell right now ;) any way , the laptop works just fine with win98 and I have fully tested the ram hard drive and dvd drive and cannot come up with any problems . Someone please help me .

Your 450 Mhz P3 CPU may be the problem. 128 MB RAM may also be the cause. If you are using the live CD, it may need more RAM than you have, IIRC it runs in a RAM Disk. These are just a few things that crossed my head as I read your post and they may be of no consequence.
My first step in troubleshooting this issue would be to check the Ubuntu system requirements. If this computer does not meet the needs of Ubuntu, you can try DSL or Puppy Linux. Both are light weight Linux OS's.

I belive minimum was p 133 and 64mb . Anyone know how to install without booting to the live cd?
