I am trying to get the FTP service to work on my Linux box, using Mandrake 6.5. The network is able to ping my other computer, making it appear to be a software configuration problem. I followed the step by step directions that are at the HOWTO website but it is still not working. (The exact version of Linux that I am using is not listed there) I have tried more than one FTP program but they all have similar results. When connecting the message giving the Linux domain name is given and there is a prompt for a password. It does not let me log in. Also it takes a couple of minutes before any message is displayed, when trying to FTP. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello- If you are able to connect to the server and receive a prompt, then chances are your ftp client is configured correctly. I would check on your l/p for the servers you are trying to use, or read the manual pages and help pages for your client to make sure your inputting the commands right. hth. -Ryan

From the best that I can tell it asks for username and password. I know how to FTP to a box that is configured correctly. I just don't know how to configure it. Kind of like a dog staring at the door knob!!
