I could be wrong but...all linux distros can be d/l for free. it may take you 3+ hours to get all of the iso's, but you can d/l them. pick your distro and look around on the site.

I heard the Linux distribution CDs were sold at the store. For the personal version, it is around 40 dollars. Does those CDs on the store have more tools (compliers) than the free download version? Thanks!

The personal version that you see at the
store is the same version that you can
download for free. The reason you would like
to pay for $39.95 is the nice looking manual,
official CDs, and tech support! But if you
think you can handle Linux, then you can
download those CDs at some mirror sites and
print out the manual yourself. However, if
you don't have a fast network connecttion
(please don't try this if you have a dial up
connection), then maybe you want to head
over either www.cheapbytes.com or
www.linuxcd.com. You can get a copy of
RedHat, Mandrake, and others for a minimal
prices, usually $10.00... So, either
download it yourself (www.linuxiso.org),
find a friend who has a fast connection, or
get it for a minimal price... But of
course, buy the official release from your
distro if you can afford it! That's how
you support your Linux distro.Lawrence

No, the iso files you download from the company (ie: RH, SuSE, Mandrake) are just exact copies of the cd's you'd buy at a store. I'd suggest spending the $40 on a linux book that comes with the distro of your choice on CD, instead of spending the $40 on a boxed set that has a couple of books (that, in the long run, don't help at all) and installation support for 90 days or whatever it is.

to download any linux distro that your heart desires goto www.LinuxISO.org the linux distro's that you download for free are in iso form so you need to use a cd burning program such as nero 5 to "burn an image" of the iso, further more the reason that they are free is because they do not contain support(yes, what you buy in the store is support), they are full distro's with full use of "tool's". I suggest that you do a search for a download manager of some sort on google or what ever search engine you use as these are very large files(500-600+ MB's each and there are usually five cd's worth)and can take some time to download even with high speed internet access! Oh, and a tip, if the download reads a rediculus amount of time to download cancel and try again. For cable users each iso should take around 45min.
GOOD LUCK :)

I went for the book with the distro included .Redhat 7.3 35$ at barnes and noble. I suggest stardownloader for massive downloads it is free and has no ads or spyware .Can be had at
www.stardownloader.com Get version 1.33 it works good.
Good Luck on your conversion.
I just bought the book today.
Ron
