I have installed WinLinux 2000 and keep getting the following:
Error: Memory Manager not detected
Creative SB19 Emulation Driver requires EMM386 or similiar.
Creative SB16 Emmulation driver NOT loading. When I checked MsConfig, Emm386 is active. I went and d/l the SB16 driver and typed make install. It appeared that it went in. When I restarted, I get that error. I have a SOundblaster PCI512, so went & installed the driver for that. (When I typed sndconfig I got nothing).
I've been through the web, can't find anything. I keep losing my sound core...I've reinstalled and STILL get his. I am ready to sledgehammer my puter, I've been at this for a week. Can anybody give me an idea on what to do????????? I am a newbie, I've been thru the how-to for sound. Please help, I'm totally crazed.

Did you just do MAKE INSTALL, or did you do MAKE, MAKE INSTALL?
You probably have to make the driver first.
Email me w/ more info.

The Mandrake advice above is good. cheapbytes.com has it (and many others) on CD for a few bucks.Try linuxnewbie.org for more info. While I have not used WinLinux, I have heard nothing positive about it compared to other distros. mandrakesoft.com has a good overview and online tutorials. Keep trying, Linux is worth it.

Who in their right mind wants to stay with Windows. General protection faults, OE errors, page fault errors, fatal exception errors, unknown errors. Who needs it. Once he gets Linux installed he will really appreciate what a stable operating system is!

...take a deep breath. Buy another distribution: REDHAT 6.2, MANDRAKE 7.1 or my favorite SuSE 7.0 which should be out now;all of which have improved support including by telephone for limited time. Their installation interfaces are now more intellegent---that said; have all system information at hand, repartion your drives and start fresh!
Don't give up yet. Linux is beautiful as well as stable and powerful---well worth your efforts and patience. GOOD LUCK!
