formatting ntfs or fat32 from linux

i need a way to format a 40gb hard-drive to ntfs or fat32.. i would like fat32 over ntfs... if there is anyway to do this i would really like to know.. thank you ahead of time to anyone that can help me...

First partition the disk with fdisk or cfdisk.

Then format to fat32 with this command:

mkfs.vfat -F 32 /dev/hdxy

where xy above indicate drive letter and partition number, ie primary slave drive, first partition would be hdb1.
