formatting hdd

if you mean by "OS" linux ,then just pop in the cd and do the setup and it will be done

thnx snot!! but unfortunately.. ive been doing that.. but it wont run the setup.exe ... im getting the impression that i should just format the hdd and do a clean install .. it just doesnt read the disc... IM SO FRUSTRATED!! so do you know how to format the hdd?

What do you mean by setup.exe won't run??? First of all, make sure that you change your BIOS to boot from CD-ROM first. Then, put the first CD of whatever distribution that you have and it will boot from it! It will probably ask you a few questions and then it will format your harddrive before it installs Linux on your PC!!! You don't need to format it first before you install it. It will do that for you... Which Linux distribution are you planing to install anyway? There should be documentation showing you how to install it on your PC! There is nothing to get frustrated; just look around for either README or doc.

indeed setup.exe is windows. but your in another world now ;-)
