OS: xp pro via Knoppix 3.9
CPU/Ram: Pent 4, 512

I need help to solve forgotten password on my laptop which has XP Pro. I have Linux Knoppix 3.9 live CD, how do I go about erasing or restting the password so I can log into my Laptop? something to do with the SAM files etc?

Are you talking about your windoze password? Use the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor CD/floppy, you can download one from here:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

If you really want to use knoppix, get the STD version. Phlak and some others (possibly The Ultimate Boot Disk?) also have the chntpw tool....

You should actually be able to just start your Windoze in Safe-mode if you just forgot your login-password. That way you get admin rights without entering a password. All you gotte do then is reset the password for the User account you want to use.

To get to safe mode just hit F8 during bootup. If windoze starts loading normally without giving you the option of safe-mode you missed it ;)
