Comment:

i can't get gaim and firefox 1.5.1 working.
they work perfectly when i'm logged in as
root but not as regular user. they worked
before as a regular user and now they don't
although i didn't change anything regarding
permissions (or at least i don't remember
to)

FIREFOX ERROR:

(firefox-bin:7543): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL
**: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT
(object)' failed
/usr/bin/firefox: line 135: 7543
Segmentation fault $MOZ_PROGRAM $@

GAIM ERROR:

Gaim has segfaulted and attempted to dump a
core file.
This is a bug in the software and has
happened through
no fault of your own.

Don`t worry! There is no sugar.

I think that you have a problem with GTK apps under KDE. Right? . This si what you need :
http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/suse/9.3/i386/suse/i586/gtk-qt-engine-0.6cvs20050229-4.i586.html

not sure what package management your using (yast apt etc) try copying your personal info to a temp folder and do a purge of the install (not just a remove but a purge (clears everything)) then reinstall and reimport
if that dosnt work do a ls -lisa on the executables and see what they say

And one more hint when you download gkt-qt:
in console type :
rpm -Uvh gtk-qt-engine-0.6cvs20050229-4.i586.rpm because you should already have installed gtk-qt-engine
See ya

Had the same problem due to a problem with permissions in my ~/.mozilla directory. Changed all owner of all the files to myself and it fixed the problem.
