Dear peps, I have Mandrake linux installed on my PC.Well i am on a network(LAN) where tons of people share files and folders.Well atleast when i was in windows we had something called as "Network Neighbourhood" where we could transfer our files and etc...Well is there any thing in linux which would enable network transfers..that it via my linux box i could communicate with windows boxes?

There are a number of solutions. A good one is openssh. There are win clients that can access the files. Putty and WinScp2 are a couple. Than there are virtual network solutions. There are many options for you.

If you want to access shared Windows resources on a network, then you want to look into the Samba client for linux. That's what it does.
