Hi people, I am really hoping to get back into using a linux distro on my laptop now I have a new one but am having problems getting things to run correctly.
Let me start from the beginning to better help you to help me.
I installed Fedora 9 Unity on here, the i686 with 2.6.25.. kernel, this booted and ran fine, but i had no access to my wireless card.
I tried installing kernel-devel and kernel-headers so that I could compile the drivers to install for my wireless but it seems those kernel packages just arent available for this kernel (I was using yum to update/install)
I ran yum update and updates all several hundred packages including the kernel which installed 2.6.26.
Amongst other things, graphical boot doesnt work now.
This kernel does have the kernel-devel and header packages and will boot sometimes but with a problem.
On boot I get this
Code:
"ACPI: EC: GPE storm detected, disabling EC GPE"Some times the system will hang at this, sometimes it will boot. Mostly it hangs.When/if it does boot, I was able to compile and install my wireless card drivers and get them to work (sort of) but now it just hangs at the earlier message and doesnt boot at all.
I tried removing the "root=" "rhgb" and "quiet" options and it hangs at:
Code:
ACPI: Processor [CPU1] (supports 8 throttling states)I have tried to go back to the original kernel but without the devel packages I can't get wireless to work. Any suggestions on how I might fix the ACPI: EC: problem and/or the graphical boot. Please let me know if there are any system log messages I can post etc to help you, and how and where I can find them. Thanks

Try ndiswrapper instead of trying to make your drivers.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
