Comment:

from the "K" menu, Quick browser/ Root Directory/
/var/log/ALL
/etc/default
/root
/etc/Bastille
/tmp/orbit-root
That message is found next to these if I look at them. Do I need to be logged in as root to view these files? If so, how do I log in as root, I only have the option of entering my user password upon boot. I'm teaching myself Linux and would like to know what everything does. : )

You are right abt root (certain dir/files are owned by the Admin) At the gui login you can type 'root' as your user (although not common practice to fully login as root, esp to a gui)

You can use a command prompt and use the 'su' command to give root priv to that shell. From there full access control
