Failed to bring up eth0

It worked yesterday, but this morning when booting up, it failed to bring up eth0 (Determining IP to eth0 ... failed). I thought that the network's down, but it's still working in WindowXP(though pretty slow). So what's the problem here and how to deal with this ?

You could assign your IP statically, but since XP also seems to be affected I would look further than your gnu/linux box only. Other computers have the same problem?

What sort of network is it? Peer to peer workgroup, NT Domain etc?
Do you have a DHCP server?
What are the outputs of the commands "ifconfig" in redhat and "ipconfig" in XP?
Do you have a link light on your NIC/hub/switch?
When you say it's working for XP, is that dual boot on the same machine or is it installed on a different computer?
