Hi folks,
Mobo - ASUS A8N-VM
AMD - Athlon64 3000+
HD - ATA 40G
Installer - F8 dvd 86_64
Fresh installation
Tried 2 days to install F8 w/o result. The PC hung on "load amd pata driver".
So I "boot: linux noprobe" instead. But unable to find the driver for the ATA HD. On "Select driver" having tried follows;low-level driver for AMD PATA IDE (pata_amd)
low-level driver for the Highpoint HPT366/368 (pata_htp3x3)Library module for ATA device (libata)
low-level driver for Ali PATA (pata_ali)All w/o results. Please advise where can I download the appropriate driver? TIA

This doesn't necessarily solve your problem but have you tried CentOS 4.5 or 5? It is compiled using the binary source code of the RHEL and RHAS distribution. As such it is a direct match of the Red Hat enterprise distributions. All of the technology that makes RH enterprise capable apply to CentOS.
That said it most likely will support your PATA disk where FC8 will not.

Hi xjlittle,
I have CentOS 5 running as server on VMWare on another PC, as Guest OS. I tried CentOS 3 as desktop previously. Because I have F7 running on this PC. It is installed on a SATA 160G HD. I need this HD. Therefore I find an old ATA 133 40G HD to replace the SATA 160G HD and install F8 on it.That is the store. I won't run F8 for daily work just keeping it for reference.
On this PC I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 desktop on another ATA 133 40G HD. I'm running it for daily work.
