Hello, 1/19/01I am a castaway on the Linux ocean.
(... you open the bottle ... POPPP!!!,
and read the note ...)My system didn't really crash but has inherited several problems from doing
repeated destructive Linux installs the
last 4 months.
1) I HAVE fixed some of these myself.
2) I am returning my total C drive back to Windows 95 again. My system is happy with itself, BUT the boot sector has the wrong number of total sectors. I cannot access the last 2.108 GB - 1.664 GB = .444 GB of my C drive because of this.
I am using the Caldera version of Open Linux from Sam's "Learn Linux in 24 Hours", (which planet, in Antares?).
I would like to fix this by reformat-
ing the boot sector with this program
to re-integrate all my sectors back
into Windows. Then I am using FIPS and
I will re-install Linux.
3) Also I CANNOT uninstall or re-install Microsoft Word or Works.
I can get into/out of Word, but, I get these error messages when I boot in: "This document cannot be linked ...".
I believe I am missing a file, installreg_run.dll in my C:\Windows\System directory, but
I don't know which of the 100 cabinet files in my D:\MsWord\Ie5\En
directory to extract it from.
By the way, how can you use a wildcard
with the DOS extraction function???
I don't want to have to go through
all 100 extractions command line
by command line. Are there any Linux/
Windows dentists out there?
As the visionary, Henry David Thoreau has said, "Programmers lead lives of silent
infuriation"....the happy Linux dolphins or penguins splashing in the sea, going "arrk, arrk, arrk", here I am knocking
my head against coconuts, rueing the day
I was born.P.S. I calculate I am about 5 miles North by Northeast of Garden Grove,
Orange County, California. I am out there in the middle of the day, when the sun is directly overhead, waving both arms. If you spot me, the north side of the island has a really good landing strip. Please don't put the message back in the bottle, I need help
NOW!!! No kiddin'.

In windows if you have a good archiver like winace then you can check the cab files quickly in windows...

First off, you should never put multiple
questions in one post. Second, you should
never as a windows question on the linux
forum and vice versa. As for the first question I read: You have a
MBR problem. I have answered this in the
FAQ. It is under the DOS FAQ section and is
about clearing your hard drive. I suggest
everyone read the FAQ before posting a
question here.
