Extra CD Icons on Desktop

Hello,
I'm having problems mounting/unmounting my CD-ROM and CD-RW drives. As it stands, I have three CD-ROM icons on my desktop (but only two drives). When I insert a disc in my CD-RW drive, a fourth icon (mapped to the CD-RW) appears. When I insert a disc in the CD-ROM drive, no new icon appears.
Of the three "permanent residents," it appears that two are mapped to the CD-ROM and one to the CD-RW.
I would like there to be two icons on the desktop, one for each drive. I'd prefer if no new icons appeared when media are inserted into either drive. Does anyone know how to achieve this?

Are you using KDE? If so, go the the KDE control center > desktop > behaviour and tick "display devices on desktop". make sure that both mounted and unmounted are ticked.
Alternatively, delete all the current icons, right-click on the desktop and choose the create new cdrom device, go the the properties and set it up manually.

Where is the desktop configuration utility in GNOME? Right-clicking in KDE pops up numerous options. In GNOME, hardly anything useful appears...

For RedHat Linux 9.0 running BlueCurve, it should be in ~/.gnome-desktop... Change to there and delete whatever icon you don't need!
