Who makes the cheapest Linux compatable external modem that I could buy at a store or from THEIR online site?

Hi Craig - I always run US Robotics externals. They are not the cheapest, but are solid as a rock.
I'm sure there are other manufacturers who also make less expensive and reliable modems.

I have a Diamond SupraExpress 56k V.90 Ext. It runs nice, stable good hardware modem.. etc Not quite as quick as a USR but I paid *24!!* dollars for it quite a deal. You should be able to find the same model on pricewatch. They don't manufacture them anymore though so stocks are limited.
