Not sure if that topic makes any sense to anyone. If you use Putty often, you may know what I'm talking about.

I'm just wondering if there is any way to extend the command line when using SSH Putty to connect to a Linux host. It currently only allows me to type in about a dozen or so characters before it starts a new line of output to the right of the old. In other words, you can't view the entire command without scrolling horizontally.

It's fine and all, but a pain in the rear when you want to copy the command to another window or program.

Isn't there a command I can send to the host to expand the viewable area or something? Thanks

I haven't used putty for years, but isn't there an option to set the rows and columns for the terminal?

I believe that just adjusts the size of the window.

I've counted, and I still can't type more than 37 characters before I have to start scrolling horizontally to view the entire command.

Thanks.

Perhaps there is a setting to wrap text? Sorry, I don't have a windoze install to hand to try it out, might work under wine though...

Well it does work under wine, I have just connected to a server and typed 123456789012345678901234567890123456789 and I still had space left....maybe it's different under windoze?

Actually just noticed that I don't have to scroll horizontally at all as the commands wrap round....check all your putty configuration, I have "Auto wrap mode initially on" ticked by default under the Terminal settings.

Autowrap is checked, unfortunately. I've also tried with it
unchecked yet it still does the same thing. I'm thinking it has
something to do with the host.

Thanks

That's what I'm starting to think. I have never had this problem before but maybe check your sshd_config. Have you tried connecting locally in "ssh 127.0.0.1"? At least then you can see whether it is a server or client problem....
