Hi Folks,
Thanks in advance for your help. Here's the deal . . .

Computer: IBM Thinkpad 600E
P2 366 MHz
294 MB PC-100 RAM

OS: Ubuntu 5.10

This being an older computer I am using a ethernet card PCI adapter for internet connection. It worked fine on this computer using SuSE 9.1. I switched to Ubuntu because SuSE runs very slow on my old laptop. Ubuntu runs great except I cannot connect to the internet. I would appreciate your help in getting the card to work. I am a newbie (only about two or three months experience with Linux (SuSE 9.3 Pro on my desktop)). Please keep that in mind when you reply (I don't know much). Thank You!

I used a ethernet adapter I got from compUSA on a thinkpad, (model 2621-42u) 433 MHZ celeron

Seemed to be automatically detected, with a realtek chipset , through a USB connection.

Since I only have, 1 , usb connection I got an usb dongle, to expand the devices I could use. I've plugged in my wireless mouse and the ethernet adapter and afterward set-up the internet connection ,

I've used both the DHCP setting and Statically assigned addresses, either one of which worked fine,,

from what you ask It's a little hard to gather the info needed to answer your question ,, ( I have the same problem !!! )

Trying to communicate the problem you have ,a little more info is needed and , Specifics, Namely

(1) the network card brand name,
(2) what's showing up as the hardware in the OS
(3) The settings of your router. or whether or not you connect directly to your modem,
and or the set-up in general.

Sorry if this doesn't seem to help and all but , I'm a linux newbie, in many ways and just play around with it trying to learn it , It's Not Windows< Would like to learn to use it full time but sometimes I'm daunted at trying to get something to work, because of hardware issues... and the amount of time that it takes to reconfigure and Learn , How, to reconfigure some aspects of the OS,,,

However < Little by Little> I'll learn, Just as I have learned to use windows,, and given enough time and searching and learning I'll ,Hopefully, become somewhat adept at it,,,

MSI 845e mb 768 mb ram and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!

Quacked, thanks for replying. I tried Knoppix and it picks up everything so on the laptop I think I'll just stick with Knoppix for the time being. I've tried several Linux distros and am still experimenting. I installed Mepis on a desktop and I think I like it better than SuSE.
Good luck to you in your own adventures with Linux and, again, thanks for trying to help me.
