Hi
I installed RH7.3 on a machine and then shifted the hard drive across to another machine (don't ask why, it was necessary).
Everything seems to be working OK except for the ethernet interface. Doing an ifconfig shows only info for the loopback interface. 'Service network status' shows that lo and eth0 are currently configured devices, but only lo is active. The file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 is correctly configured.

What Im not sure about is whether there is a compatibility issue with the network card (it's an onboard interface on an IBM 300GL PC). If so, why is network status saying that eth0 is a configured device?

Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried "ifconfig eth0 up" or "service network restart"?

Assuming you are correct and your ifcfg-eth0 file is set up correctly, make sure you have "network" checked in "ntsysv".

Also, you might do an "lsmod" and look for your network driver (driver to look for should be referenced in "/etc/modules.conf", such as "alias eth0 ne2000").

Good luck.

i dont know about REDHAT, but in Mandrake
(i hope its same) goto Mandrake (or Redhat)
Control Center -> Network & Internet ->
Manage Connections -> select options ->
tick "Start at boot" Untick "Trace network
id" and untick "Network hotplugging"

Check also to see if ur Network card is
working
