OS: mandrake
CPU/Ram: 550/192
Comment:

Hi again...
I got to one labtob & one desktop @ my
home....and i wanna create small home
networking with those PC.my labtob Os are
Mandrake 9.0 & win 2k (partition) & the
desktop OS is winXP. Well, i can
succesfully shared my folder used Komba
from my labtob (linux) to my desktop (XP)
before i format to 9.0 from mandrake 8.2
But now...i couldnt be able to share my
file because eth0 interface failed. It
says like this:/etc/rc.d/init.d/network
start
Setting network parameters:
[ OK ]
Bringing up loopback interface:
[ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0: Determining IP
information for eth0... failed.
FYI, when i first install mandrake 8.2 i
configure manually and not "used
automatically boot/dhcp" but when i install
9.0 i used da automatically one (coz i
wanna try what the difference between auto
and manual). Unlucky me...each time i start
my linux...the eth0 interface [Failed]. So
i run linuxconf (on X windows) and i did
configure it manually. Local ip 192.168.1.1
s mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway
192.168.0.1. And the eth0 still failed.

Actually, my what my purpose here is...i
wanna make my PC connect to internet using
one internet connection (i used dial-up) as
linux is da one who connect directly to
intenet and Xp connect via ethernet cross
cable.

So, my question ... what else should i
configure on linuxconf ?? Then..should i
click "do it" or "do nothing" after i close
da linuxconf ?? or could anyone gimme some
tips to make my ethernet interface become
[OK] ??

Finally, appologize me if there's wrog
spelling on my english. Thanks

Ps: I able to share my internet connection
from my labtob using win2k to my desktop
(XP one) as click on network setup
wizard-->default gateway on my Xp. So thats
mean the problem is on linuxconf.

I'm also getting the eth0 failed message when trying to boot to Mandrake 8.2. I just put it on an older computer with Windows 98. It was working for a few days, now I get the eth0 failed message. I hadn't made a boot disk yet, so I don't know how to begin correcting this problem. I can boot to Windows wihtout a problem, but I can't get Linux. I eventually get to a request for my login (which I don't have), and then I'm stuck and have to restart.

I'm new to Linux, so I'm not sure what to do. Any help would really be appreciated.

below is my way....x))
go to console & type 'linuxconf'
Then.. choose on networking section. Next
choose Hostname & IP net add.
On 'adaptor' tab choose Enabled and choose
Manual on config mode. Plus...i set the IP
address, subnet mask. I also set gateways
on routing & gateways section.
Finally..Close all and do nothing.
It should back to console....and login as
