Comment: Hi everyone: I got hold of other window partitions but the thing is, if i login as root and try to change permissions for that, it gives error that it cannot change permissions coz it is read only. How can we fix this thing. i need to access the data from other partitions(Window partitions) I hope someone can help me with that. Thanks

Reply: (edit)Are they formatted to FAT or NTFS? If the latter its probably a good idea that they are mounted read only as write support for NTFS under GNU/Linux is not great. You should use captive (http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/). If they are in FAT then make sure that the lines in /etc/fstab do not contain "ro" and if you want all users to be able to write to the drive put "umask=0" as one of the options.
