i have just recently installed Mandrake Linux 9.0 Beta, everything works fine Except the sound im using AC 97 On-Board sound and i was told if i recompilied the Kernel i would get sound, but while im recompiling the kernel i get Error 2 at the end, i have looked everywhere to find out what ERROR 2 means but with no avail, anyone have any ideas as to what it means and how i resolve the problem thanks.

error2 alone means nothing. depend who spits out that error. does it appear in make dep or make bzImage or make modules or make modules_install. post the error message plus some lines before it

Are you sure you need to recompile? I have AC97 audio and Mandrake 7.2 and 8.0 and RedHat 7.1 and 7.2 all supported it by default. The only sound trouble you might run into is needing to chmod 666 /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer. If you have sound as root, this is the problem.
