I have an Ensoniq Audio PCI soundcard on various machines. However, on one machine, this card is giving me a lot of problems. All three machines are spec'd differently. The one I have problems with is running RH 6.2 kernel 2.2.14-5.0smp. I run sndconfig and it finds:

A PCI sound card was found in your system. The details are:

Model: Ensoniq|ES1371
[AudioPCI-97]

When the system tries to play a sample audio clip the following error occurs:

The following error occurred running the modprobe program:
/lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0smp/misc/es1371.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0smp/misc/es1371.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0smp/misc/es1371.o failed
/lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0smp/misc/es1371.o: insmod
sound-slot-0 failed

Any suggestion as to what is causing this error and how it can be fixed.

Thanks

Hi;

Before the modprobe, lsmod should show you if the sound driver is already loaded. I have the same card and it works with alsasound driver. There's alternative to enable kernel drivers in /etc/modules.conf, too. And make sure that sound is enabled in the kernel configuration. If you still have trouble, read /proc/interrupts or /proc/pci for conflicts. Also read /var/log/messages. Leave your email, so I can send my setup info to you.

good luck

Since I posted this last message, I have found out that my PCI 128 card does not use the es1371 chipset. This card uses the ct5880-DBQ chipset. Model of the carrd is CT4750 which is not part of the PCI 128 family but the Live family of cards.

I have tried using the ALSA drivers without any luck. Creative also have a couple of Beta drivers out there, but they are not for the SMP Kernel. Still giving errors similar to above.

I will take a look at conflicting irq's and so forth. But is there any new suggestions with regards to this new information.

Thanks Tel.

hi;

I never used an SMP kernel. It could be the issue or not, but did you try the OSS drivers or one of the kernel's /etc/modules? Try searching Redhat's knowledge base for different tricks, first.

good luck

HI, I have the same soundcard, and cannot ge the card to work for the life of me!! I get the same error message as the other 2,.......A PCI sound card was found in your system. The details are:

[AudioPCI-97]

When the system tries to play a sample audio clip the following error occurs:

I'm running Mandrake 7.2 and cannot solve this problem. I was happy to know that at least my card was compatible, but it doesn't even work. If anyone can help me get sounds i would appreciate it very much!!!

I had some success with I think kernel 2.2.17
and OSS/Lite ALSA 0.5.9something.
I have NO success with ALSA and kernel 2.4.0 yet
