How do you edit the grub.conf file. I have tried to access it from /boot/grub/grub.conf in the console on Mandrake 9.2. But it says that its a bad command and will not open it.
How do u open the /boot and then onto grub? I am having trouble getting XP to work with Mandrake can i repair xp from the cd? and get rid of grub but not linux?

You edit it by using one of the text editors. Personally, I use vi but it's probably too much for you to handle. You can use pico (if it comes with Mandrake) or gedit. Log in as root and run
cd /boot/grub pico grub.conf (save it when done!!!) grub-install /dev/hda

Another easier editor which you can use either in X or in text mode is mcedit....it's quite a lot like DOS edit and uses the function keys (F1-F10) to open, save etc.
