Comment:

-Created a directory on Linux called "Share" in smb.conf file.
- Added a user/password by typing,as root, smbpasswd -a and then set password.
- Open "Network Places" in WXP, I see my Linux box, but when I click on it, I get "Network Path Not Found".
- I CAN ping it by IP in WXP, but not ny name.
- I'm on a small home "Workgroup"...

Any ideas?

Nope. I know I must be doing something wrong that is just totally basic. If you just had a Windows machine and Linux machine on a little network, and you simply wanted to make a directory on the Linux box accessible to the Windows box, wouldn't you just have to enable SAMBA, create a SAMBA user/password, set the security to "user", start the services and you're good to go? I've done it in the past, but it's been awhile and I can't recall wht I did to make it work....

Have you edited the /etc/samba/smb.conf file for workgroup names, shares etc?

You should be able to list your linux shares from the linux box by:
# smbclient -L 127.0.0.1
Try a blank password first, if not make sure you are doing it by a user who has been added to the samba users.

You can always cheat and use SWAT to configure SAMBA.

if you're on a rather secure home network(ie- behind a cable/dsl router) i'd just do away with the passwords. But you should just need to define a user on your system that is belongs to, and then when you try to access it, XP will ask for a User name and password. There should be an example of that sort of a configuration in the smb.conf file(i know you just wanna bust out VI and play with that file:) I think they call the user "fred", just uncomment the lines for that exampl and change it to match your users/settings. And come to think of it, before you go through all that, make sure you've got the workgroups the same on both machines...
