Comment:

I am running Redhat 7.3 on a P3-1ghz w/ a g-force2 card and a pioneer 16x dvd-rom drive.

I can play dvd's using mplayer, xine, and ogle but they all have the same problem. Every second or so the video pauses, skips a few frames, then goes on. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

I found what my problem was from the xine help documents. I ran xine-check and it checked my system and told me how to improve it (mighty helpful that). I needed to turn on dma mode on my dvd drive by running this command:

hdparm -d1 -X66 /dev/hdd

I did this and it works perfectly now.
