Dual-Booting Win2k and Redhat using NTLDR

Help!!

I would prefer to use Win2k's bootloader (ntldr) to boot to the linux partition. I have read the HOWTO's, but the method described using WinNT 4 doesn't seem to work in this case. Here is what I did:

Installed Win2k on two 15GB drives (hardware RAIDed on NTFS 5.0). That used hda and hdb. I then installed redhat 7.0 on hdc with a root and swap partition. This is on a 30GB drive that is partitioned properly with DiskDruid. The root is at hdc1. I installed LILO into the first sector of linux root. I then created the bootsect.lnx file from linux. Next, booted into win2k and copied the bootsect.lnx file into win2k's root (C:\) and edited the boot.ini file accordingly.

Finally, I attempted to boot into Linux with ntldr. It initially started and froze at LI. I know each letter stands for a different part of the loading process, but I can't see why it won't load.

I really don't want to use LILO for the boot manager and partition magic will NOT install on a drive with the bootable partition being NTFS. What are my options for getting NTLDR to work with linux??

Thanks,
Phil

I think the problem is the NTFS, if I recall it correctly you need FAT partition for the boot stuff.

I have used this method for Nt 3.5,NT 4 and Win 2k. I have gotten it to work with no problems on an NTFS c:\ drive in Windows 2k.
My suggestion is to try remaking the bootsect.lnx file using dd. Did you try making a bootdisk with RH /sbin/mkbootdisk command and did it work? The other one that got me in the past was a large disk and I had to put linear in the lilo.conf file. Anoter potential gotcha is the whether linux boots from the second EIDE channel - (hdc and hdd) it sticks in my mind I had a problem with this 3 years ago but....

Start of my lilo.conf:

boot = /etc/bootsect.lnx
#boot = /dev/hdb1
timeout = 30
linear
prompt

Hope one or more of the items helps.

that's pretty easy, make sure lilo is installed on an ext2 "/boot" partition located below the cylinder 1023(a 20-30MB partition it's OK) the configure lilo to be installed at the 1st sector of this "/boot" partition, then go to:
http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm
download the file and follow its instructions. Sounds harder than it really is.
