dual booting

Comment:
I have considerable Win98 and Win2K experience but am a Linux neophyte. If I want to load Win 98 and Mandrake Linux 10 on two partitions on the same hard drive and dual boot, should I install Win98 in the primary partition and Linux in a logical partition? I've tried installing Linux first but when I do that the entire drive goes away (only sees Linux)even when partitioned into two areas and Partition Magic 7.0 can't make heads or tails out of it other than to call the whole thing a "bad disk." Ideally I would like it to normally boot to Win98 but boot to Linux with a floppy.

Install Windows first. 9x likes being on the first partition of the primary master hard drive. Let Linux put the bootloader on the MBR; it won't hurt anything. Booting with a floppy is a pain and floppies get corrupted too easily.

Go to my website (Homepage link) and look up dual booting procedures.
You can then make your choices better informed.
