Anyone successfully setup a dual boot with
RH7.3 and XP? I have partitions 1&2 NTFS
for XP, partition 3 as Fat32 for a common
drive between the two. And partition 4 is
an extended partition with hda5 being / and
hda6 as a swap. I setup redhat to use LILO
on the boot sector of hda5 and using a boot
disk. I've found HowTo's for configuring
LILO to dual boot, but eventhough I
specified LILO during install upon booting
it is using Syslinux. Anyway to do this
using the Windows boot manager?
Recommendations for a different boot
manager? Can I install Syslinux to the MBR
and be able to boot XP on NTFS?

Hi,

U can easily use lilo to boot both windowsXP as well as linux.

If u've managed to setup lilo.conf for u're system, then just run the following command as root:

# /sbin/lilo

lilo should show up the next time u boot into u're machine. Keep a bootdisk handy, incase something goes wrong.

don't forget to add something like (check lilo howto for exact details):

other=/dev/hda1
label=winxp

to boot into winxp.

This is what I get when I do /sbin/lilo.

"Warning: device 0x0305 exceeds 1024
cylinder limit
Fatal: sector 48755047 too large for linear
mode (try 'lba32' instead)"

How to I try "lba32"?

Well, to answer my own question in case
anyone else is as slow as I.

Edit lilo.conf and replace the line that
says "linear" with "lba32" with no quotes
on either. Then /sbin/lilo worked fine.
