Hello Guys

I am facing problem in dual booting between windows 2000 and Linux 7.0. Following is the whole scenario.
Windows 2000 (Professional) is installed on Primary NTFS partition and after that i have istalled Linux 7.0. Now I am unable to boot windows 2000. Linux does not show other operating system to boot during boot process. Linux can not mount ntfs partition.Please help me to make my system dual booting. I shall be really grateful for your help.

Thanks

Irfan

I assume you are talking about Redhat linux 7.0.
There are different tools available for double/multiple boot. My favorite is "grub" which is the default for Caldera-Linux. It is very easy to define various linux systems to boot in, even on additional ide-controllers.

Your system probably supports lilo. There is a configuration file in /etc/lilo.conf.

Check the manual and just edit this file to reflect your win2k system as an additional option. It will probably only work if win2k is on hda1.

2000 needs it's own bootloader to stay!!!
(the program in the master boot record mbr or hda that makes it possible to load windows)You'll want to refresh the 2000 install but first make a linux boot disk.
After windows is again bootable, use your disk to start linux and this time when you install the bootloader ie grub or lilo, put it in partition hda2 or hda5 (whatever you chose to use as your / or root partition)
read about lilo and /etc/lilo.conf unless you already know how to reinstall a bootloader or have a graphical program to do it like the 1 that comes with mandrake.
by the way i recomend mandrake for a beginner then move to redhat then the really hard stuff

Ahum! Everything You need is a modified lilo.conf file. Include lines;

other = /dev/hda1 ;if Your win2k is in hda1
label = win2k ;or label what You want

...then type lilo (You must be root to do this). After You reboot Your machine, You can select Linux or Win2k. There's no need to reinstall any Windows files or/and bootsector.
