Last night I installed RH Linux 7.2 on 5th and 6 partition

1 = my MBR (I think? its the only thing thats FAT)
2 = 15 megs of space i accidently made when i was jackin around with Partion Magic

3 = my C Drive

4 = my D drive

I loaded linux and now it only boots into linux, and i can access Xp... i went into LILO.CONF and added

other=/dev/hda1
label=XP

I've tried millions of different things like

other=/dev/hda1
label=XP
root=/dev/hda
------------------
other=/dev/hda1
label=XP
root=/dev/hda1
------------------
and so on and so on... and when i run lilo out of SBIN it lists

Linux *
XP
Syntax error near line 18.

or something to that extent? I can't get XP to show up in the boot list.... any one have any suggestiong??

this is all on one 40GB hard drive

i am not quite sure about the line18 blahh
error that you got,...

but last time i got a problem that similar to yours, i installed redhat 7.2 with my win2k, and i doesn't prompt me in boot state (i was installing LILO boot loader) then i tried to reinstall again by using grub boot loader and it worked.

so i think you may try grub,
ps: hope can help you, cheers

I just installed 2000 with 7.1 and was having the same problems. The syntax error near line 18 is because when you edited the lilo.conf file you must have left some empty spaces which lilo doesn't like. Highlight after the label and delete whatever spaces are there, then save. The way I got it to finally work was partioning the hard drive with fdisk, install 2000 on the first partition then install linux on the second. I had to redo the whole system but at least its working now.

Hey guys...my plans were to install multiple OS on my two hard drives, including red hat. So, I chose to purchase system commander 7 after trying the freebie OSLoader. Sure, it costs me $59 but it has worked great, including creating partitions, resizing partions (move data around), etx. It also does a great job of handling my various OSes. Lilo and Grub are free, but sc7 is great!

Something for everyone.
