Comment:

Having problems booting XP after installing SuSE 10.0. Both on the same drive but different partitions. SuSE boots fine but selecting "windows" resets back to the screen that lets you select SuSE or windows.

I have an /etc/grub.conf with:
setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd0,5) (hd0,5)
setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd0) (hd0,5)
quit

I was planning to edit boot.ini and adding the linux boot image:

C:\ bootsect.lnx ="SuSE Linux"

...but I can't get XP up.

Any help apreciated.

Post up the whole of your grub.conf. There should be a section for windoze looking something like:
title=XP
rootnoverify=(hd0,0)
chainloader +1
makeactive

What partition is each operating system on?

For SUSE 10.0 the configuration file for GRUB is /boot/grub/menu.lst. Post the contents of this file. Should throw up some light.
