Hi techie Linux types..:D
Ok its time to take the plunge and see what this Linux is all about before it gets too big and i never understand it...lol
I have a dual boot PC that has Win 98 SE and XP Pro on it,its only a ten gig hdd with i think 2.5 gig for the 98 and 7.5 for the XP, but im hoping its enough to do what i want.
My question is how do i format the 2.5 gig partition where the 98 is and install red hat and keep the XP as a duall boot.I havent tried yet ,i thought ide better get some advice from u guys before i stuff it up on my own.
I allready have the 3 Red Hat cd's (down loaded from this site http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=7 i got the shrike? disks if that means somethink)

Thanks guys and gurls.

When win98 and winxp are in a dual boot set up, there are some boot files used by XP and the NT boot loader which reside on the C: drive with the rest of Win98. If you clear this out then you will lose the ability to boot XP.
Also depending on how much of linux apps you are going to install 2.5 GB may not be enough. RH7 needs about 4 GB for a full install.
My advice would be to start afresh by first wiping your hard drive and then first installing WinXP using about 6 GB anf then install linux using the remainder.
Alternatively if you can afford it a second hard drive would be better.

Hi.
the easier way is to partition your HD with Partition Magic, install Linux, and don't install LILO (boot selector), because it always overwrite the MBR (master boot record), and you won't be able to boot Windows anymore. Then make a bootable floppy. If I had done that before I would have spared around 40 hours of resarch and reinstalling, hehehe... good luck2200+ XP
256 DDR... huh
... who cares?
