I am trying to use the automatic installer for Red Hat Linux 7.2 to set up a dual boot system with Windows XP. When the Linux installer tries to partition my hard drive, it gives me an error that says, "can't create primary partition" or something to that effect. Is there a setting on Windows that I need to change for this? Thanks, Will

Try partitioning with fips first. Its on the first RH cd under dosutils. Of course, defrag your hard drive before you do any partitioning. I could never get fips to work with an XP hd, for some reason I couldn't get it to extend the new partition over about 1.5 gigs and ended up having to use Partition Magic (or format the hd, and install ME or earlier). My roommate tried fips as well on XP box with the same result. But you might give it a go. Oh, with fips you can't do it from inside windows, have to boot to DOS first.
