I found a site that has redhat 1.0 - 8.0. I am going to download em all to have a variaty for different pc's. The first one I want to download 6.1 has these 3 files

MD5SUM which I have downloaded because I was told they are for checking the iso.

The other 2 are "redhat-6.1-i386.iso " and "redhat-6.1-i386-srpms.iso".

Do I need 1 or both?

What versions are better to download? The ftp has the following versions: 1.0,1.1,2.0,2.1,3.0,4.0,4.1,4.2,5.0,5.1,5.2,6.0,6.2,7.0,7.2,7.3,8.0 and a folder called beta. I have noticed some iso's in one folder have srpms.iso and others just .iso. I am currently using a Windows PC to download them until I get my router and linux computer up and running.

Which is the best Burning software? I have Adaptec, Nero, and WinOnCd.

hi chad,
i recommend using www.linuxiso.org for fast and reliable linux-iso-downloads! they've got (nearly)every distro you could imagine and a very useful faq section (incl. a mini howto for burning iso-images). for a recent iso-download i used nero5.5 (as it was described on that page) and it worked first time around.
success,
rainer

Hi,

For downloading ISO images I recommend you using the open source FTP client for Windows called FileZilla
filezilla.sourceforge.net
It has features such as resuming and best of all is stable and open source!

For burning ISO images from Windoze I recommend you using Nero. Wanna burn? Then put a CDR on your burner, open Nero, click on File and burn image, select the location of the ISO and start burning!

You don't need all versions. Try downloading from 5.2 or 6.2 to 8.0. RH 6.2 works OK on 386 and 486.

I found my Adaptet 4 Burned Knoppix Just fine doing same thing as told for Nero. Just open select create cd from image and burn. I will keep using for now unless I start gettin problems. I have already downloaded Knoppix, Redhat 5.2 and 6.2 in less than 45min each on broadband connection 2945Kbps. I think I will just download 7.2 and 4.2 and be done with them. I already have a copy of 8.0. Mostly looking for versions that will work on older pc's that have GUI's. Are there any other versions ie. Suse, Mandrake, Free BSD, that would be good for old pc's.
