downloading linux without ftp...

Is there anywhere to download linux without having to use an ftp? my computer crashes everytime I try to log into an ftp server.

What about using another FTP client (Bill did not invent the File Transfer Protocol !!!)
I propose you FTP Explorer that you can download at http://www.ftpx.com/ This one works, I am pretty sure.
Anyway, if you have difficulties with Internet Explorer, I recommend you to re-install your OS, or to upgrade to a newer version, so your configuration will become a little more stable.
Summary: Windows or DOS never will start up in Linux without some sort of emulator. The point is you don't need Windows/DOS anymore (but you can still have a dual-boot system). Linux does almost everything Win...
